AMATOLA WATER BOARD ROLLED SLEEVES TO FIGHT COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Since the inception of the COVID-19 pandemic in our country, Amatola Water has utilized at least close to 100% of the allocated funds towards water carting, supply and installation of water tanks. This is to ensure that communities have access to clean water, especially during the scourge of COVID-19. The officials from Amatola water and Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation are working tirelessly to ensure that the directive from Minister Sisulu is fully implemented. The Minister instructed departmental officials to provide water to all communities in the province through Amatola Water Board. That propelled the delivery of water tanks and water trucks throughout the province especially for areas that are without reticulation infrastructure to access water.

Amatola Water is responsible for the supply of water tanks and procurement of water carting services as an interim measure to augment water supply in all local municipalities.  This is meant to supplement water supplied by district municipalities to fulfill their mandate as Water Service Authorities.

Eastern Cape is a rural and drought stricken province with mostly aged people.  This intervention is therefore designed to control the spread of the virus by protecting mostly the vulnerable of our province (aged). In the meantime, Amatola Water Board is engaging with Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation for additional funds in order to continue supplying water to communities.

The Acting Chief Executive, Ms Dudu Hlatshwayo commits the institution to play its role in the prevention of the spread of the virus. To this end we are collaborating with municipalities in the provision of water. Amatola Water urges communities to work with government and protect all water infrastructure to benefit everyone. It is our quest to continue to supply water to households especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
