AMATOLA WATER CONVERGED FOR INTROSPECTION AND STARTING IN A CLEAN SLATE AS THEY START A NEW FINANCIAL YEAR
Amatola Water Board as an organization that has been infested with the litany of challenges and not reading from the same page between the management and the workers regrouped and embarked on a serious introspection as an organization. This exercise is meant to come up with one team that will steer the institution to the right direction. Embarking on this process and retracing where the challenges begun was meant to come up with feasible solution in starting the year. Every participant was given an opportunity to discuss the matter of dissatisfaction and satisfaction in order to progress the institution.
The Chairperson of the interim Board that was recently appointed by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Pam Yako demonstrated delight in the act as initiated by workers and said “Teamwork is one of the fundamental components of a company’s success. Quick and professional collaborative work grants businesses the ability to deliver high-quality services on time. The Chairperson also told the employees that the board is working towards achieving the restoration of Leadership and appoint the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive officer of the institution. Ever since the departure of the Chief Executive and Chief Financial officer in April 2020 there has not been another appointment.
The acting Chief Executive, Mr Siyabulela Koyo in his presentation defined a team, as qualified professionals who share the same values and strive to achieve a common business goal. Such workers know how to solve the problems efficiently and demonstrate a prominent level of communication and cooperation, providing the expected results. At the same time, all team members should act as a single organism”.
Mr Siya Koyo, the acting Chief Executive also emphasized the fact that Communication is one of the most significant aspects of strong teams. A lack of understanding of how to communicate effectively in a group can compromise the institution hence meetings of this nature should happen more often. Teams that communicate regularly understand the common goal and can support each other without competing with each other.
Employees encouraged the need for institutional performance feedback quarterly to enable employees to track their performance. Mr Victor Totolo, Amatola Water Fulltime Shop steward said “Working together between management and employees will advance the work of the organization and teamwork helps all employees see their contribution to the organization success”. Employees will therefore focus on the primary business which is bringing water services to the people. “When you communicate openly and share honest feedback to each team member, you provide valuable experience that keeps your team united”.
Amatola Water employees together with the management resolved that a high-performing team plays an essential role in overall business growth. Everybody employed in Amatola Water should understand that his or her performance plays a pivotal role in the organization and brings quality service to the people timeously. The resolve in the meeting between all the parties was that all hands on the deck towards the improvement of services to the people.
