On the 11 August 2022 Amatola Water held once again its annual wellness awareness event which focused on the wellbeing of the employees of Amatola Water. Following a very emotionally testing time with Covid-19 protocols, the Amatola Water management saw it an utmost necessity to bring wellness awareness to employees as a step to healing and moving forward. The organizing committee joined hands with external partners in the health and wellness space to ensure not only the event was successfully organized, but also to ensure that it responds to the issues affecting employees.
The partners included MapheQ Financial Solutions, which are Amatola Water brokers both for medical aid and pension funds, together with our medical aid insurers, Bonitas, Discovery Health and Samwumed and various banking institutions such as FNB, STD Bank, ABSA and Nedbank.
With work-related stress and healthcare costs on the rise, the need for corporate wellness cannot be overstated. The mental health and wellbeing of employees is critical for maintaining sustainable levels of employee engagement, resilience in the face of organisational change, motivation, and innovation. The main aim of this event was to ensure that Amatola Water responds to the growing importance of employee wellbeing.
In addition, employees must be involved and buy into the idea because preventable illness is a complete lifestyle and behaviour change, which takes time and commitment. Of particular interest to employees is the disease burden of preventable illnesses such as heart disease, obesity, stroke and cancers linked to lifestyle choices. Through platforms like these, people learn that such diseases can be largely mitigated through tailored interventions that promote a healthier diet, increased levels of physical activity, regular health checks and taking care of psychosocial wellness.
At inception, employees were given an opportunity through a survey to express issues they wanted Amatola Water to address. Issues from healthy diets, financial matters and general life stress were among top issues raised by employees. Expects in the wellness space confirmed that these issues when addressed, will yield fruitfully to a balanced life, which in turn may benefit the production for Amatola Water.
Whilst employees were overall happy with the events of the day, the service providers were requested to provide individual health profiles of the employees so that issues that needs follow-up are indeed addressed.
There is no production without health!!!
