He announced the members of AW interim Board in the meeting he had with Amatola Water Board management wherein he was connected and the AW management were gathered at the ICC, East London on Friday 25 March 2022.

Mr Simphiwe Dzengwa
Ms Zamela Kiviet

The Minister took the interim board on the journey that he has travelled with the dissolved board since he arrived as the Minister of Water and Sanitation in August 2022. He also voiced his disappointment on the recent strike that left people without water and highlighted the fact that out of 57 Billion people with high unemployment rate of more than 30% we are very fortunate to be able to bread in our table and to feed our families therefore we should treat our jobs as such. He mentioned that the issue that was at hand is now resolved however the fact that the institution left people dying without water will never be reversed. He encouraged all the employees to take pride of their work and to take decisions that merely progress the institution. With regard to the Chief Executive position, the process will be started afresh and the interim board will have to kickstart the process and fill all the key vacant position. In essence he wished the interim board well as the board members of the entity and hoped that there will be enough participation from the management in taking forward the work of the entity. There is also an intention to expand the scope of Amatola Water Board to be an Eastern Cape water utility and more will be carried out by the incoming interim board.
