Sisulu Welcomes The Newly Appointed Board Of Amatola Water

The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu has welcomed the newly appointment Board of Amatola Water and called on them to serve and put people of the Eastern Cape first by ensuring that the municipalities the Board serves receive potable bulk water.

The Minister made this call after the Cabinet approved the appointment of the water utility board members for a period of four years starting from 1 March 2021.

“The stability of Amatola Water and all those it serves is in your hands. Water resource management in the face of South Africa’s variable and unpredictable climate and aggravated by climate change is crucial. The socio-economic wellbeing of people of the Eastern Cape including the business community is dependent on a water-secure future.  They count on accessible and reliable supply of safe drinking water that sustains health and supports their livelihoods. Serve them with honour and dignity”, said Sisulu.

The Minister also wants to see the Board prioritizing the filling of all the vacancies, particularly the positions of the Chief Executive and senior management.

Minister also implored the Board to make sure that strict governance prescripts are adhered to at all times in ensuring the water needs of our communities are met.
