Minimum Qualifications:
- M+3 (National Diploma/Bachelor’s degree) in Labour Relations/ Industrial Psychology/ HR or equivalent
Minimum Experience:
- 5-7 years’ experience in the field of Labour relations, with 3 years at Management Level
Key Outputs:
Reporting to the Senior Manager HR, the appointee will:
- Receive and analyse the official grievance from employee
- Arrange meeting in terms of relevant grievance procedure in consultation with the relevant parties
- Liaise with the employee and the relevant manager to determine the cause for the discipline or grievance
- Keep a directory of disciplinary or grievance cases, their status, duration and charges to track progress and ensure adherence to turnaround times
- Maintain compliance with grievance procedures
- Analyse evidence and interpret the applicability of specific policies, procedures, legislation and case law with respect to issues and arguments relevant to the matter contested
- Present the case, calling on and questioning witnesses and presenting closing arguments
- Prepare reports on Disciplinary/ Grievance cases referred and attended to, outlining outcomes/ awards for submission to the Manager: Human Resources and specific Committees for perusal and comment
- Represent the organisation in relevant labour forums, structures, working groups and as a team member at the Bargaining Council
- Guide employees, managers and representative unions in understanding their roles and responsibilities, rights and obligations form a labour relations perspective
- Explain procedures and applications associated with discipline management and grievances and/ or identify skill gaps with respect to specific competencies to be prioritized and addressed through external formal training
- Maintain case files containing all documents, correspondence and outcome/ award determination and/ or accessing/ retrieving information upon request
- Monitor and evaluate implementation of collective agreements
- Monitor adherence to disciplinary codes and assist line-managers and relevant employees on the correct procedures
- Encourage cooperation between employees, management and the representative unions
- Participate in Committees and Working Groups and providing advice/ guidance on the interpretation of policies and procedures impacting/ influencing conditions of employment
