Senior Technician Pipeline

Operations Division 

Based at Laing WTW

Minimum Qualifications:

• Grade 12

• National Diploma (Civil Engineering)

Preferred Qualifications:

• BSC Degree or BTech (Civil Engineering)

Minimum Experience:

• 5 years General maintenance experience of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level

Key Outputs:

Reporting to the Water Services Assets Manager, the employee will:

• Manage and monitor general inspections of pipelines, valves, buildings, meters and reservoirs, by

determining the state of repair thereof, using standard inspection forms

• Collaborate with the Planning Department regarding monthly planned maintenance and delegating

maintenance functions to respective Artisans

• Obtain quotes for Operations and Maintenance Departments with regards to new work and repairs to be done

• Monitor the progress of projects and inspecting work on completion of project for payment purposes

• Identify training needs and ensure all staff are adequately trained with respect to applicable safety

regulations to minimise accidents

• Monitor that all applicable regulations and safety rules of both the OHS ACT and Amatola Water are

obeyed and applied to minimise accidents and incidents

• Perform regular inspections of plant, equipment, fences and buildings to ensure that accidents are

avoided

• Assist the Water Services Asset Manager in preparing the maintenance budget for accurate expenditure control

• Control operational expenditure as well as motivate and document over-expenditure for accurate expenditure control

• Authorise the procurement of materials and other requirements for accurate expenditure control

• Ensure correct staff compliment within sections

• Appraise and counsel staff formally, when required for ever increasing performance outputs

• Communicate information, policies, decisions and regulations to staff and facilitate upward communication to minimise misunderstandings

• Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements

Other requirements:

• Sound knowledge of maintenance and safety systems (i.e. safety requirements & standards as per OHS Act)

• Computer literacy (MS Office)

• Valid unendorsed driver’s licence

• Basic budget control experience

• Required to work overtime
