Civil Design Engineer

Planning & Development

Based at Head Office

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.Sc. / B Eng. / B Tech in Civil Engineering

Professional Registration:

• Professional Registration with ECSA either as Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Professional Engineering

Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng.)

Minimum Experience:

• 2 years’ design experience in the civil engineering field for water related projects

• 4 years’ experience in the engineering field, mainly in the water industry.

• 4 years’ Project Management experience

Key Outputs:

Reporting to the Planning & Design Manager, the employee will:

• Lead the detailed analysis and design processes for projects by applying in-depth knowledge regarding the principles and standards of civil and structural engineering

• Lead the detailing and specification of engineering solutions for projects conforming to the relevant SANS guidelines

• Identify and implement appropriate data collection for the analysis stage of projects

• Generate sound engineering solutions for projects using appropriate design standards

• Select optimum engineering solutions based on project life cycle costs, risk assessments, quality, environmental and political acceptability

• Ensure compliance to legislated requirements for projects is achieved

• Identify the need for specialist consultant support when required

• Provide clear terms of reference for specialist consulting work

• Produce detailed layout drawings and schedules for structural work in projects

• Produce detailed work and as built drawings for civil engineering work in projects

• Prepare technical tender reports for projects

• Provide technical leadership in the tendering process and award of contracts

• Liaise with contractors as a Project Engineer on site

• Ensure adequate site supervision is provided during the construction of projects

• Conduct briefing sessions during tendering and site hand over on behalf of Project Manager.

• Enforce SHEQ procedures

• Identify factors to build a cohesive internally focused team to meet corporate and functional objectives

• Establish and maintain good relationships with internal divisions of Amatola Water with regard to project implementation and management services

Other requirements needed

• Knowledge of OHS Act

• Knowledge of the Environmental Act

• Contract Management Standards : GCC 2000

• Knowledge of Supply Chain Management Processes

• Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act

• Computer Literate – spreadsheets, word processing, presentation packages, design and modelling packages

• Valid unendorsed driver’s license
