Senior Mechanical and Electrical Technician
Based at Nahoon Dam
Operations Division
Total Guaranteed Package: R 967,595.10 (Per Annum inclusive of benefits)

Minimum Qualifications:
• National Diploma Engineering (Electrical) (NQF level 6)
• Accredited Management Certificate or equivalent (NQF level 5)
• Professional Registered with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) as Professional Engineering Technician.

Preferred Qualification:
• B Tech (Electrical) (NQF level 7)
• Accredited Management Qualification or equivalent (NQF level 6)
• Government Certificate of Competence (Factories) for Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (GCC).

Minimum Experience:
• Four years post professional registration experience.
• Sound knowledge of maintenance and safety systems (i.e. safety requirements & standards as per OHS Act)
• At least four years post registration experience in Maintenance Management and Project Management.

Professional registration
• Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA):
• MINIMUM: Professional Engineering Technician.

Key Outputs:
Reporting to the Senior Manager: Water Service Assets, the appointee will:
• Manage maintenance of plant, equipment, buildings and property
• Co-ordinate repairs and maintenance to all equipment, buildings and facilities by daily liaison with Maintenance Foreman to ensure optimum efficiency
• Monitor the planned maintenance system to ensure optimum efficiency of all equipment, plant and buildings
• Monitor the execution of specialised allocated work by visiting works, attending relevant site meetings and attending to problems
• Control specialised material requirements of maintenance
• Determine what specialised spares and equipment are necessary for stock purposes taking into account lead times and delivery times and ensuring such spares are ordered to minimise plant outage time
• Implement statutory requirements to minimise accidents and incidents
• Implement all statutory requirements as defined in the OHS Act 85 of 1993 in order to minimise incidents and accidents
• Manage and monitor finance-related affairs (Finance / Budget) of the department
• Identify and prioritise projects and refurbishments to ensure correct work allocation
• Develop staff to improve motivation and performance
• Conduct Manpower planning and section requirements ensuring correct staff compliment within sections
• Provide ongoing feedback on area performance
• Submit monthly reports
• Carry out reasonable and lawful instructions as given by the line manager/ supervisor within the ambit of the position taking into consideration competencies and operational requirements

Competencies:
• Sound knowledge of asset management
• Sound knowledge of the OHS Act, regulations and legal requirements pertaining to the general supervision of machinery
• Sound people and budget management
• Sound technical report writing skills
• Above-average computer literacy
• Valid unendorsed drivers’ licence
• Good dam safety knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of all diverse engineering fields, i.e. civil, mechanical,
electrical, radio & telemetry, air-conditioning, carpentry, planned maintenance and safety.
• Sound knowledge of design of electrical equipment
